Visit Matlock Baths

mhouse.jpg MATLOCK BATH ILLUMINATIONS and VENETIANNIGHTS  are a popular during September and October when the riverside is decorated and the cliffs floodlit to create a magical scene of colour. During weekends there are parades of decorated boats, entertainments, and sometimes fireworks. Limited on street parking is available but park in the Railway Station Car Park is advisable. mcablecar.jpgCROMFORD MILL is the world’s first successful water-powered cotton spinning mill was designed and built by Sir Richard Arkwright in 1771. In 1970 the complex was saved from dereliction and is undergoing painstaking reconstruction. Sir Richard moved the cotton industry from people’s homes to purpose built factories and created the village of Cromford, much of which still remains. The School, the cottages he built for workers’ families, the privies, the inn, the lock-up and even allotments can still be seen. Telephone 01629 823 256.

THE HEIGHTS OF ABRAHAM at Matlock Bath have drawn visitors for over 250 years to the magnificent views and the spectacular show caves. The Cable Car. pictured above, takes visitors from street level to the Heights. The illuminated spectacular show caves tour provide an opportunity to learn about the rocks and geology of the Peak District before visiting the Great Rutland Cavern to experience a day in the life of a 17th Century lead miner.
