glasgow3.jpgSHOP

All the big High Street brands are here. The pedestrianised city centre shopping streets are like a right angled Z formed by Sauchiehall, Buchanan and Argyle Street. The scale and quality of shopping, seven days a week and late on Thursday, is magnificent.

EAT

Hungry ? If you’re spending a day in the West End try Scottish staples at Oran Mor (Byres Road), then dinner at the excellent Ubiquitous Chip (Ashton Lane) with its cobblestones, greenery and fine service. The menu specialises in fresh Scottish produce.

DRINK

Auchentoshan distillery, established in 1823, produces a delicate, smooth and light single malt whisky. The Distillery, only 20 minutes from Glasgow City Centre, has guided tours from 10am. If you prefer the pubs in the city centre then try the oldest one The Clutha or the Scotia ( both Stockwell Street). Both have folk music, period charm and are unpretentious. The Tourist Information Centre (11 George Square, Glasgow G2 1DY) is a one stop shop for car hire, tickets for events, tours and transport. The shop has an impressive collection of ceramics, glassware and Mackintosh gifts.
