50th anniversary celebration

On a lovely Saturday in October, 1st Glenfield (St Peter's) Brownies enjoyed a very special day out at Twycross Zoo to celebrate the 50th birthday of their Brownie Unit. With the support of a grant from Blaby North Community Forum every girl in the unit was given the opportunity to participate. There were lots of noisy, active primates to see and hear and the meerkat, lemur and penguin feeding times were great fun. It was a fantastic day and so lovely that Dorothy Horsewood, who started the unit in 1963, was able to come along. The day finished with everyone enjoying a piece of the birthday cake.
Brownie Traditions
So what did Brownies do 50 years ago? We decided to find out by undertaking the Brownie Traditions badge. The girls learnt a number of skills including; knot tying, wrapping parcels with brown paper and string, polishing brass, sang the old Six Songs and brought along the essential items Brownies then carried in their uniform pocket.
