Cricket club pre-season report

Anstey and Glenfield Cricket Club are looking forward to starting the new cricket season in April in the Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League. The first team will be playing in Division 6 West after gaining promotion last season and the second team will be participating in Division 8 West.
Joe Harris will again skipper the first team following a highly successful 2014 season. They were promoted from Division 7 West with Asian Sports and they will be welcoming teams like Appleby Magna, Hathern Old and Sharnford down at the Gynsill Lane ground. Anoop Jayaraj will be hoping to better his outstanding 837 runs from last year with the bowlers looking to top the averages, following a brilliant combined effort during 2014. The first team start their 2015 season at home to Hathern Old on Saturday 18th April – everyone is welcome to come down and see what we are about and there will be a warm welcome for any visitors greeted with a cup of tea.
Charlie Wilkes returns as second team captain. The second team will be wanting to improve on last year's disappointing campaign when they finished 9th in Division 8 West. They have a few new teams to play this season with matches against Market Bosworth, Woodhouse Eaves 2 and Fatana to look forward to. The second XI commence their matches with an away match against Loughborough University Staff on Saturday 2nd May.
Both teams will be hoping to have a successful season. In addition, the club have also entered the Twenty20 County Shield and there will be the occasional Sunday friendly. The club are hosting a Presidents Day on Sunday 19th July, where there will be a limited overs tournament featuring 4 local teams. It is hoped that this will be a great family day with various off the field activities taking place, in addition to the action on the pitch.
During the winter, the players have been attending nets at Beaumont Leys School and some of the club members have been working down at the ground helping to prepare it for the new season. We have fantastic facilities down at the ground and we are extremely thankful to everyone involved for all their hard work. The club also have an excellent working committee who ensure that the club is moving forward.
We are actively looking for new players of any age or ability, so if you are interested in joining the club, please email our secretary Amanda Wilkes. Amanda's email address is amandaandcharlie@btinternet.com. We will be hosting weekly training sessions at the Gynsill Lane ground on Wednesdays from 5.30pm during the season, so if you're interested in playing for the club, why not come down and practice.
