Cricket Highs

Anstey and Glenfield Cricket Club are enjoying an excellent season. At the time of writing, the first team are currently flying high in Division 6 West sitting in 3rd place pushing for promotion with the 2nd team sitting in mid table of Division 8 West.
First team captain, Anoop Jayaraj is leading by example by scoring 1 century and 4 fifties with an average of nearly 60 which is a fantastic achievement. He has been backed up by fellow batsmen, James Ogle, Kiran Nair and Vishwanath Parmar who have all scored half centuries. The bowlers have also been performing well with Charlie Wilkes and Rob Charles achieving 5 wicket hauls. Up to the middle of July ,the 1st team have only lost 2 times and will be hoping to continue their successful run during the second half of the season to finish in the top 2 of the division.
The 2nd team will be looking to improve on 5th place in Division 8 West. Jim Pike and Darren Morris have been the pick of the bowlers so far, both posting 5 wickets in matches. They have been backed up by amongst others, Charlie Wilkes and Ranjeeva Fernando. The batsmen have also been contributing with Jim Pike, Jon Hartwell and Charlie Wilkes the highest run scorers. The second XI have had some brilliant results including victories against Huncote 2, Woodhouse Eaves 2 and Leicester Ivanhoe 4.
The club's President Open Day will be taking place on Sunday 14th August from 10.00 in the morning. This will be a 20/20 cricket tournament with Anstey and Glenfield being joined by Appleby Magna, Gracedieu Park and Braunstone. Action will be taking place on the field all day with the eventual champions being crowned early evening. There will be something for all ages with food and drink available including a licensed bar, face painting and a bouncy castle. We look forward to welcoming lots of the local community in what should be a memorable day for the club.
