Apprenticeship week

Blaby District Council is marking National Apprenticeship Week by highlighting the work of their seven apprentices and the difference apprenticeships can make to lives.
Organised by the National Apprenticeship Service, the week celebrates apprenticeships, traineeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the local economy.
The Council has focused on giving apprentices an opportunity since 2015 and currently has seven working across the organisation, including Finance, Neighbourhood Services, Assets and Corporate Services. It was awarded "Large Employer of the Year" at the Leicestershire Apprentice Hub graduation ceremony in 2016 for its work with apprentices.
To mark the week, the current crop of apprentices have produced a video, leaflet and dedicated webpage to give an insight to young people what life as apprentice is like, and how it can make a huge positive difference to gaining valuable experience in local government.
Mark Foote, Strategic Manager for People, Performance and Assets, said: "Our experience of employing apprentices has only been excellent. We have recruited young, hardworking people whose main aim is to gain a foothold into their chosen career.
"Colleagues realise that these apprentices are beginning their careers, and ensure they have the right training and support to help them in their everyday jobs. They have made a positive impact to the Council and we are committed to developing as many apprentices as possible for the foreseeable future".
Ellie Sutton, who currently works as an apprentice within the Customer Services, said: "Coming to Blaby District Council as an apprentice is the best decision I could have made. It will help to open many opportunities for me in the future by providing a qualification and self-confidence. It has also given me the opportunity to earn some money as well!"
