Hall school anniversary lunch

As part of their Golden Jubilee Year the children at The Hall organised a special anniversary lunch. With the help of Leicestershire Food Support Services, an old recipe book from 1967, when the school opened, was found. The School Council used the menus and worked with Paula Hurst, the Assistant Area Manager, to design a special lunch using the old recipes. Ms. Sue Wells and her team in the kitchen cooked up a delicious meal of braising steak or vegetable stew, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots followed by spotted dick with custard or trifle. The dining hall was decorated with Union Jacks, balloons and photographs from the school archive depicting children in the 1960's at The Hall. The special guest of honour, was Mrs Langmaid, the retired cook who has catered for generations of children at The Hall. The children ate their food to the music of 1967. At the end of lunch time they thanked all the ladies in the kitchen and presented them with 'thank you' boxes of chocolates. As one pupil exclaimed, "This is great food! I have loved eating something different!"
