Glenfield sees spate of Christmas burglaries

In December there were 7 reported burglaries in Glenfield and 3 reported vehicle crimes (vehicles broken into or stolen). More details on all the crime statistics in Glenfield can be found at the Police.uk website https://www.police.uk/leicestershire/NH22/

Last month we highlighted whether turning off the street lights between midnight and 5.30am had an effect on crime, and the experiences of residents in Kelvon Close and Fishponds Road. We received a reply from Leicestershire County Council basically saying we needed to follow the rules and regulations with the support of the police to reinstate the lights in those areas.
However I'm pleased to say that Councillor Lee Breckon took up the matter on behalf of the residents. Following consultation with the lighting team at County Hall and the Police it was confirmed that the criteria had been met and the lighting has been switched back on for a trial period to give those residents affected comfort for the foreseeable future. The period will be reviewed when the trial expires in consultation with all parties. Sergeant Ian Tuckwood was the liaison officer on this on behalf of Inspector Emma Maxwell for Leicestershire Police.

It is reassuring to know that any resident who has a concern regarding lighting can be signposted to the right person who will always follow the rules and regulations that are in place. The good news is that sometimes the problems can be resolved, and a big thank you to Councillor Lee Breckon.

The next Glenwatch meeting is on Tuesday 5th February 2019 starting at 7.15pm at the Parish Council offices, Park House, Stamford Street – everyone welcome. Come along and hear the latest police information and have your say.
