Glenfield Tunnel visit

As part of their local history topic the Year 3 children at The Hall were invited by Leicestershire Industrial Historical Society to visit Glenfield Tunnel. It was a fascinating experience for all concerned. They ventured 380 yards into the dark using torches and wearing hard hats. Each child was kindly given a souvenir ticket and a booklet explaining the history of the Leicester and Swannington Railway. At the end of the tour a recording of the sounds of the train in the tunnel was played which caused lots of excitement. A year 3 child was heard to say, "It felt like the train was going right passed me!" The topic has been brought further to life by the model of the tunnel being loaned to the school by the Parish Council. It has become a focal point for lots of discussion, questions and interest.
