Clampdown on untaxed vehicles

A partnership between the local police team and officers from Blaby District Council's Environmental Health saw five vehicles removed from the streets.
After complaints from local residents in Huncote and Enderby, the partnership instantly removed the vehicles after inspecting them, with all five parked on the public highway under 'DVLA Devolved Powers.'
Many untaxed vehicles are parked on the public highway for several weeks without being moved, causing potential disruption to traffic and blocking space for taxed cars to park.
All vehicles will be taken to a local pound for owners to reclaim them. Any reclaim of the untaxed vehicle costs £100 for the first day as well as £160 surety for a valid tax disc, plus £100 for the second day. Impound costs are also included at £21 per day, with overall costs reaching up to £507 for a week.
If the vehicle is unclaimed it will be crushed.
Jo Hewitt, Technical Officer at Blaby District Council, said: "Our link up with Blaby Police proved to be very effective as we removed five vehicles that were illegally on the public highway. We want to thank them for their partnership during the day.
"The message with our clampdown is clear; if you own an untaxed vehicle, keep it on your own private land. Any vehicle reported to us without a valid tax will be taken away."
