Memories are made of this

This was the reaction of the members of Glenfield Park W.I. when Richard Adams gave his talk on "Memories are made of this." He began by saying that photos are an excellent way of preserving memories and shared with us some of his memories of 2 trips to Kenya. The first photos were taken very recently and were a random selection. The photos of his earlier visit provided a much more polished show and were set to appropriate music. This illustrated how much work he puts into compiling his presentations.
The photography was stunning. He calls himself an amateur!!! As members some of us felt that we should perhaps just throw in the towel or possibly take it as an inspiration to do better. Talk about feeling up close and personal with the animals. You almost felt there. All kinds of wild animals were there, including a sequence of a crocodile and a wildebeest. A particularly spectacular one "among the many" was of a family of lions yawning. He did explain that he took this from the safety of the vehicle. One of his regret about the second visit was that there were no flamingos at a lake where previously there had been thousands, the result of a rise in the water level.  He concluded the evening closer to home with a presentation of places in Rutland and finally a video of a murmuration of starlings performing over Rutland Water. What a fantastic but also relaxing evening.

We also enjoyed a trip on the canal with lunch and although the weather was not kind it was classed as excellent and members are looking forward to the next one. We enjoy too our craft sessions and our lunch club and are indulging in Afternoon Tea fairly soon.
