Playing the steel drums

Year Four have been learning to play the steel drums. There are three big drums which each have their own names: Guitar, Bass and Double Seconds. These are big drums which are played on stands. There were also a range of small mini-drums which we played on the tables. The drums are hit with percussion mallets in different places to make sounds with a variety of tones and pitches. We practised and played a variety of different songs including 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.' The Bass drum was the favourite for the majority of us because it's a challenge to try and find all the notes on it and it makes some fantastic sounds. We put on an exciting and energetic performance to other children who really enjoyed the sounds we made. We had a great time showing off the new skills we'd learned over the term!
