Egyptian day

On Friday 13th April, Year Three took part in an Egyptian-themed learning day with two historians from a local company. The historians took us back in time to meet Cleopatra and discover who she was and why she was so important to Ancient Egypt. Next, the children were able to see exactly what it was like to be Mummified where they were shown how a body would be bandaged and placed in a coffin to pass into the Afterlife. The children also learned how to be an Ancient Egyptian Scribe, creating Papyrus and learning the art of drawing hieroglyphs to create their own sentences. The children really enjoyed the act of decoding pictures to find the hidden meanings in their drawings. Later in the day, the children learned about different Egyptian toys and games and were surprised to find similarities between toys and games then, and toys and games now, despite the passing of thousands of years! The day ended with a story-telling session where children listened carefully to the story of Ancient Egyptian Cinderella.
The children had a fantastic day and learned lots of interesting and exciting new facts about Ancient Egypt which they are now excited to explore further in our History lessons. The children were excellently behaved, listening respectfully, working cooperatively and sharing ideas and suggestions enthusiastically. Well done Year Three!
